Angier Rotary’s 2021-2022 District Grant project involved installing bird feeders outside the windows of the Angier Oak Hill Assisted Living Facility. In March-April 2022, Rotarians installed > 40 birdfeeders on shepherds hooks outside the rooms of the Oak Hill residents and provided bird seed to last through the fall. Custom coloring books of local and NC birds created by entrepreneur Leticia Knight, owner of Phases in Pages, and bird reference cards were also provided to the residents with packages of crayons. The purpose of the bird feeders, coloring books and reference cards is to entertain and educate the residents and their families and staff, and to help fill their days by witnessing the activities of nature while bringing peace and joy. These items are intended to be a resource for supporting mental cognition, emotions, and memory of the residents and provide opportunity for them & the care-staff, along with the families of the residents, to interact and fellowship. We were pleased to have Campbell University Rotaract Club members help us with the feeder installations and in distributing the coloring books and crayons to the residents. During the coloring book distribution, one of our Rotarians, Gail Turner reunited with a former teacher.
