On October 7, 2023 Angier Rotary in partnership with NC Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association (NCVHPA) honored heroes of our community and across the nation during the Opening Ceremony. Anyone is invited to sponsor a flag during this Annual event for the Hero in their life. Flags were flown from Oct 5th-12th in the Jeff Barnes Auto side yard.
A HUGE Thank you to the Nicholson’s of the NC Vietnam Helicopter Pilots Association, who brought the vintage helicopter for the 3rd time to support this event! Many enjoyed exploring the helicopter and learning of its missions and how it works!
The ceremony was opened with Welcome remarks from the Rotary President, Tammy Farley, followed by an Invocation Prayer by Pastor James O’Brien of Greater Light Baptist Church. Dolores Price and Bethany Wagler sang the National Anthem. Police Chief Lee Thompson, our Key Note Speaker, gave several ‘visual’ descriptions on ‘What Makes a Hero’ in his speech, which touched our hearts and exemplified heroes among us.
The support from local businesses and groups for this ceremony included Santa and Mrs. Claus of Santa & Friends, Jeff Barnes Auto, Angier Notary, The Inspired Music Studio, Brick & Mortar Grill, Angier Police Department & Black River Fire Department. Many other businesses and community members supported via their flag and event sponsorships. We were grateful for the 4th time to have Boy Scout Taylor Davenport of Troop 125 so beautifully sing ‘Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly’.
The Hero Honor Call was celebrated with the following calling the names of those honored with Flags: Jon Mott of the VFW Post 6983, Arianna Gonzalez of Angier Notary, Tammy Farley of Angier Rotary, Wayne Davenport of Boy Scout Troop 125, Jim Nicholson of Brick & Mortar Grill and Scott Pollard of the Angier Police Department. THANK YOU!
The ceremony closed with William Michael Price singing as solemn God Bless America.
The Rotary Club of Angier always takes pride in hosting this event so our community can Remember those they love and honor! WE HOPE YOU WILL HONOR YOUR HERO IN THE 2024 FLAGS FOR HEROES EVENT!
